Meet the
Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area
People
Rev Diana Greenfield
MA Leader
Originally from Norfolk, Diana’s ministry has taken her around the UK, from Bournemouth to Maidstone, Glastonbury and now here in the Vale of Clwyd.
Diana has always believed in trying to understand the communities in which she serves. In the past, this has been as a Nightclub Chaplain, where she ministered alongside nightclub staff within the club culture. When working in Glastonbury, this meant developing an understanding of the neo-Pagan community so that she could minister effectively with them. This became the foundation for a research doctorate in Practical Theology.
Since moving to North Wales, Diana has loved learning about Welsh Culture, and particularly Welsh Church traditions such as Sul y Blodau, and Plygain. She is a welsh learner and tries to include at least some of the language in most of the services she takes.
When Diana is not working, she has two lively collies, Cara and Tanwen, who keep her fit and exploring our beautiful Welsh countryside. She also enjoys needle-felting and jewellery making, as well as recycling old church candles which she sells to raise funds for our churches.
Rev Luke Bristowe
Priest
Luke is married to Bex & together they have 6 kids (5 of their own & 1 foster child). They moved to Ruthin in 2023 & Luke serves the Mission Area as pioneer priest & Warden of Ruthin.
Luke loves hearing stories of lives transformed by Jesus and always has time for a coffee to hear them!
As a family, we enjoy being active and outside as much as we can, taking the kids out on paddle boards or canoes. We have gone on several long hikes with them – our greatest achievement to date is getting the kids and the dog to the top of Snowdon and back, with minimal tears!
We enjoy family holidays away in the tent and are always looking for new places to explore or the next mountain to climb. When we aren’t adventuring, we spend slower weekends walking the dog, baking a cake together or scouring a charity shop for a pre-loved new toy.
Rev Kathryn Hall
Priest
Kathryn is married with three children, and moved to Llanbedr in the winter of 2025 to join Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area as a priest.
Formerly a nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, Kathryn’s nursing career has taken her through many different environments, including Operating Theatres, Intensive Care, Elderly Care, and later work as a Disability Assessor. Across these years, she has been privileged to walk alongside people and families in some of the most vulnerable and challenging moments in their lives, and has found that nursing has given her a good foundation for priesthood, especially in the pastoral dimension of ministry: listening, accompanying, and being present. Kathryn’s call to ordained ministry arose about twenty years ago during a parish retreat at St Beuno’s in Tremeirchion.
Outside of ministry, Kathryn treasures time with family, including walking in the beautiful North Wales countryside, exploring National Trust properties, watching films, and playing board games (owning six different versions of Monopoly!). She also enjoys reading and has recently rediscovered a love of cross-stitch.
Rev Alyson Goldstein
LLM Officer
Alyson started working life as a language teacher and then took the opportunity to gain experience as a translator and interpreter in the shipping industry, eventually becoming UK Operations Manager of a Spanish/English shipping line. Education called her back, however, and involvement in two separate projects found her advising the Dept. for Education on policy in the 1980s and 1990s. She became increasingly interested in assessment and from 1990 - 2025 worked with various awarding organisations, becoming Chief Examiner for City & Guilds’ International English examinations, where she managed a large team of examiners and examination setters for many years.
Anglicanism has always been an important part of Alyson’s life, and she was licensed as a Reader in St Asaph diocese in 2002, serving in Dyffryn Clwyd and taking services most Sundays, covering all 14 churches. She was ordained deacon in 2022, when she also became LLM Officer for the diocese, and was priested in 2023, serving her curacy in Denbigh MA and taking services in 12 of their churches. She now serves with PtO in Dyffryn Clwyd MA, leading worship most Sundays, visiting residential and nursing homes and co-ordinating the pastoral network. Alyson is also a Vocations Advisor, a member of the Diocesan discernment panel, and Chaplain to the High Sheriff of Clwyd this year.
Rev Jampa King
Priest
Jampa is a priest serving his curacy in Dyffryn Clwyd MA.
You will find Jampa leading services in churches across the Mission area. His calling has always been to depth and inclusion, so he is often involved with reflective and contemplative work, leading quiet days, courses, and study groups, and working as part of the Diocesan spirituality group.
Jampa’s background is in education and family support, having worked for many years in Early Years leadership in the charity sector. He likes to listen and gently hold space for people, walking alongside them through the ups and downs of life.
Rev John Searl
Priest
John has been licensed to the Mission Area since 2021 and serves as the focal minister to our churches in Clocaenog and Cyffylliog. He supports his ministry financially through his work in forestry management. Originally from Edinburgh, John has been living in North Wales for the last 40 years and is married with a daughter at university.
His ministry developed from leading Family Worship, and he is passionate about making our worship accessible to all ages and relevant to people of all backgrounds, as well as maintaining high-quality traditional worship as core to bringing to and, sustaining, faith. Living in a bilingual household, John is currently learning the Welsh language.
Debbie Sawyer
Pastoral Chaplain
On 15 July 2023, Bishop Gregory licensed Debbie as Pastoral Chaplain to Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area. In addition, this quickly extended over the border as a Church in Wales volunteer for The Chaplaincy at Manchester Airport.
Crossing many more borders, Debbie was to travel to Africa for 3 months as Chaplain in St Asaph’s link diocese of Southwest Tanganyika, Tanzania. This work continues through frequent visits around various projects. Debbie’s secular life was entirely in travel and hospitality, so these unexpected roles in ministry suit her very well!
Debbie is currently Bishop’s Representative for USPG, which further extends her connections to the Anglican community across the globe.
Imogen Dennis-Newton
Administrator - operations, finance and marketing
Imogen is the MA Administrator and manages the admin, finance and marketing functions across the Mission Area. A former commercial writer and copywriter, Imogen had her own business for a number of years before joining the Diocese in 2018. Her background in marketing, finance and business management has enabled her to adapt to the varying requirements of the role.
Outside of work, Imogen is a mum to her daughter (and two crazy dogs!), and loves spending time with her family. She is a really keen musician primarily playing both the church organ and piano, and she’s the resident organist at two of her local churches. She also greatly enjoys walking and is always looking for another mountainous adventure.
Mark Randall
MA Warden
Since 2025, Mark has been one of the two Mission Area Wardens for Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area and also a Churchwarden at St Cynfarch & St Mary’s Church, Llanfair DC.
As a Mission Area Warden, Mark’s role is to be a key link between the individual churches and particularly the church wardens, the wider congregations and the team of clerics.
Prior to Mark’s retirement, he was an Insurance Underwriter for business insurances.
Outside church, Mark’s interests include history, aviation and volunteering for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Rev Rebecca Kelly (Beci)
Distinctive Deacon
Beci moved to the area in 1997 and started ‘helping out’ in St. Mary’s Cyffylliog.
Before moving to Wales, she taught Sunday School and was a Worship Leader, one of the first to be licensed, (and the youngest) in the new Buxton Mission Area.
During her time in Dyffryn Clwyd Beci has organised Medieval Fayres, run family events and services, run Sunday Clubs, facilitated school visits, and helped with fund-raising and outreach events. Beci facilitated craft sessions and led worship groups at Flames of Fire in Builth Wells for 4 years, served on the committee for the Church in Wales to develop and fund new evangelical projects throughout Wales and has generally talked to anyone about God who would sit still long enough to listen.
In the late naughties, her calling to ordained ministry became too strong to ignore, and in 2024, she was ordained as a Distinctive Deacon. This is a different calling to that of the priesthood and gives time and space for working in and around the community. Often found in her local habitat, tea-rooms and Wetherspoons, she is very happy to be approached for a chat. If you have any questions you ever wanted to know about God but were afraid to ask, track her down for a coffee, and she will happily try and help you untangle your theological knots. She might not have the answers, but she is very happy to help you wrangle them.
Sue Hanahoe
MA Warden
I was recently appointed as MA Warden for the Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area. I strongly believe that the Mission Area works best when we work together using individual talents across all the churches to improve not only our spiritual life and worship, but also practical matters too, such as the day-to-day running and maintenance of our lovely church buildings.
I’m a retired nurse and mainly worship at St Garmon’s Church in Llanarmon yn Ial where I’m also the Churchwarden and Treasurer, and play the organ (badly!). In the past I played the flute in the Llan worship band so I have worshipped at every church in the Mission Area. I also volunteer in the community shop.
Jonathan Major
MA Treasurer
Jonathan is the Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area Treasurer, and works alongside the other treasurers for the individual churches. He also liaises direct with the Diocese.
Jonathan is a retired Chartered Surveyor and Estate Agent and still keeps his hand in advising on a consultancy basis. He is keen on his sport, and plays tennis and golf on a regular basis
Sir Mark Hudson
MA Gift Aid Secretary
My role as Mission Area Gift Aid Secretary is to submit claims for Gift Aid and small plate collections for our churches increasing those gifts by 25%.
